ABOUT THE ARTIST
Louise was born in Tanzania, East Africa, where her family lived for a number of years. After returning to England, she grew up in a small rural village in Staffordshire, surrounded by countryside whose farms, fields and woods provided a vast playground for any inquisitive child. She loved the outdoors and also developed a love of painting. After her school years she went on to gain a degree in Design & Technology at St John's College, York. After her studies she worked in advertising and design for several years before opting for a more adventurous lifestyle overseas.
She travelled through Europe, South East Asia and Australia taking on various employment opportunities enabling her to maintain her explorations of the globe and continue painting. After many visits to Australia over several years, she finally became a permanent resident in 2000. Since then she spent 7 years living on Cape York Peninsula before finally moving to Cairns. Her passion and fascination for travel and foreign places still drives her today.
With a love for spacious scenery, dominant skies and wide open spaces, Australia proves to be an ideal location for the artist. Clearly inspired by her observations in the Far North her striking and evocative pastel paintings capture the very essence of the landscape with tremendous clarity. They describe wonderful, sometimes magical moments in time as the dramas of Mother Nature unfold, from raging moody storms to glowing hazy sunsets, from wild windy oceans, to calm tranquil waters. Her works are imbued with mood and atmosphere inviting the viewer to feel a sense of actually being there. Louise's work is invariably devoid of the presence of people or man made structures, reflecting her preference for the untamed wilds of Nature, where she herself feels most at home.
Louise has held 14 solo exhibitions to date and been part of many group shows. Her work can be found in private collections in the UK, USA, Europe, Japan, Dubai, New Zealand and throughout Australia.
